50 Beowulf OAL tests for feeding

    Hello,

I am making some test loads for my 50 Beowulf and need some advice on OAL.

The gun feeds almost everything alright except some 335gr Rainier copper plated things that I bought in bulk a couple of years ago. Since I have over 400 left, I need to figure out an OAL that will feed reliably. Does anyone load for these and have any input on COAL with this particular bullet?

The book OAL for this particular bullet is 2.110, which it absolutely hates. I am limited by magazine to 2.25 COAL maximum.

I am thinking about loading the following for COAL tests:

2.080" -- This is 0.030" under book COAL
2.150" -- This is 0.040" over book COAL
    2.190" -- +0.040"
    2.230" -- +0.040"

Does this look like a reasonable next step?

Are you able to measure your max COAL that the chamber will allow? This could give you an idea of how far to set your bullets out safely.

I'm limited by the magazine max length of 2.25" (It's an AR)

But maybe camber oal would limit you more. You are wanting to increase your maximum length over book max, so it would be good to know if you are going to be jamming your bullets into the lands. Most times people will seat their bullet out further than what the book says, not deeper, but you always want to know for sure if your magazine is the limiter or your chamber. Even in AR’s

I loaded for an origional AA Beowulf for years.( 03- 08)
If you do not have one yet,I highly reccomend you get a case gauge. The one with the cutout. That way you can clearly see where the case mouth should sit on the front of the chamber.
I got so where I dropped ALL loaded rds into the gauge to check if they would chamber.
The brass OAL and what kind of crimp you put on is CRITICAL to the performance of the 50Beowulf chambering. Especially in an AR type action. --- SAWMAN
